Quote of the day

"We were so happy, because it showed we are recovering from the big crisis.”

Yairma Perez, a teacher from Cienfuegos, speaking to Reuters about the 227 grammes of beef per person handed out last month through the rationing system – the first time beef has been available through la libreta since 1991.

I love how they use the term, "hand out" as if things on la "libreta" are given. If you have an item in your "libreta" it only means you are ALLOWED to buy it, it is not free.

Is that like Cuban citizens being grateful for being able to enter and exit Cuba without official government permission, should that "concession" or "privilege" ever be granted?

Is that like being grateful for not being imprisoned (or worse) for daring to say publicly that change is needed in Cuba?

Well, I suppose beggars can't be choosers, so to speak. Sad.
