After a decade in office, Tony Blair has left 10 Downing Street.
He will be missed.
After all, not many Socialist prime ministers have the guts to tell Fidel Castro - and his apologists - that when all is said and done, “I’d prefer to see Cuba a proper functioning democracy”.
The UK did maintain normal relations with Cuba, despite their political differences. This shows that the British government was far more mature than its cousin in the United States.
Check out the nice website of the UK embassy in Cuba where there is not a single word condemning or even commenting on the island's domestic affairs.
Then compare that with the US Interests Sections website, one relentless drumbeat against Cuba's internal politics. Quite a difference, even under Blair!

Bienvenidos!
Welcome to the blog of my new book, Child of the Revolution: Growing up in Castro's Cuba, which is published in Australia and New Zealand by Allen & Unwin.
The book is now available in the UK, Canada and the US, and in Brazil (in Portuguese).
